Description

Our Field Day will be more hands-on and in the bee yard than our other classes. Geared toward those individuals who just got started, but aren't quite sure what they are looking at yet. We will do multiple colony inspections in our bee yard, as well as demonstrating requeening, making splits, sampling and treating varroa mites, and when to add honey supers. This class pairs great with our Beginner Basics Class if you're a first year beekeeper.

Note: You are responsible for providing your own personal protection; i.e. hat and veil or beesuit depending on your comfort level

Meet Your Instructor:

Chris Hansen is a Wisconsin native who's interest in bees dates back to childhood, watching his father and grandfather keep bees. His beekeeping journey officially began in 1998 with two hives, and has grown from there. Over the past 28 years Chris has founded Hansen Honey Farm, opened a beekeeping retail store, managed over a thousand colonies, become recognized as a national expert in transporting honeybees, completed a Journeyman Level Beekeeping Course, and most recently began manufacturing wooden beekeeping equipment. Chris is passionate about educating people on how to keep their bees safe and healthy, and understanding the importance of beekeeping. He is a genuine instructor who loves to build relationships with customers and fellow beekeepers, and provide guidance from his wealth of experience. He stays busy in Rhinelander WI with his wife, eight children, and an ever-revolving door of projects!
