We ship through USPS, UPS, and Spee-Dee Delivery. You’ll be asked to select a delivery method during checkout.
Absolutely! We always aim to make sure our customers love our products, but if you do need to return an order, we’re happy to help. Just email or call us directly and we’ll take you through the process.
Certain items like 7 1/8" Frames, Migratory Covers, and Migratory Pallets are special orders, as they are Built To Order. Built To Order items will be specified clearly in the product description. These items can take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months to complete, depending on volume and availability. If you place an order, we recommend you email us for estimated shipping times.
If you are interested in ordering large quantities (i.e. 100+ Frames, 20+ Covers, 5+ Pallets) we encourage you to email or call us before you place the order, so we can work with you to establish a time frame and expectations.
We ship queens Mon-Thurs every week during the summer. If you place an order before noon, it is likely to ship that day, for Next Day Delivery (i.e. you place an order at 9:30AM on Tuesday, and your queen arrives on Wednesday) If you place your order in the afternoon, it will ship either that day or the next day. If you place an order after the shipping week (Fri-Sun) it will be held and shipped on Monday for Tuesday delivery.
All queens will ship UPS Next Day Air. This is to help guarantee live delivery. (note: if you live in Wisconsin, queens may ship UPS Ground and still arrive next day) Queens are sold in 3-Hole Cages with candy and several attendant bees. Queen Cages will be fixed with hot glue inside a small UPS mini box with air holes. It will be delivered by UPS to the address of your choice just like a regular package. We recommend using the tracking number provided in your email when the queen ships, to help you be prepared to receive her.
You can coordinate with your closest local UPS location, most will be willing to hold your queen for pickup, but always check with them first. Find out their address, and then input this address when you input shipping information. Please specify that this is a UPS location: (i.e. Name: *your name* Attention: UPS *store number if applicable* Address: *UPS location address*
It is helpful for you to add in the order notes that this is shipping to a UPS location. We will put a note on your package to call you for pickup. Communicating with your local UPS is important, make sure they know when the queen is coming and when you are picking up.
Live Queen Bees are available for pre-order from the beginning of Jan. until they are fully in stock. Queens usually start shipping in early-mid May depending on the season. We will send an email in the spring alerting you when we are starting to ship queens, and your queen will most likely be shipped within 1 day to 1 week of receiving that email. You will have an opportunity to reply to that email and ask to hold your queen for shipping on a specific date if the need arises. You will receive a second email with the tracking information on the day that your queen ships, giving you a days notice for her arrival. You can also visit the Spring Bee Pickup Updates page on the home page of our website, to find the latest shipping updates.
Live Bees
No, our package bees are for pickup only in Rhinelander WI and Eau Claire WI on designated pickup days. We do ship replacement queens
It depends on the year. We do not make Nucs, we deal primarily in Package Bees, but at the end of the package season we will often obtain a few Nucs to sell. For more information or to be put on a waitlist, please email or call us directly.
Due to the nature of transportation, we cannot confirm the exact pickup times until the bees are on their way, approx. 24 hours before pickup. When you place your order you will select an approximate pickup date, and we will email and text you with updates as the pickup gets closer. Actual pickup can vary by 1-2 weeks from the estimation provided at purchase.
Most people transport in the bed of their pickup truck, or trunk/backseat of their vehicle. We can help you brush the extra bees off the package before you put them in your car, but you may still have a few stragglers. If you're worried about loose bees in your car, a good option is to bring a mesh laundry bag to put the package in during transport. Important Note: Bees require oxygen to breathe and can perish due to overheating or suffocation. Like humans, bees should never be locked in an enclosed trunk, covered truck bed, or plastic tub, as they can overheat or suffocate. Always make sure your bees have good ventilation and some airflow preferred.
Woodenware / Wax Dipping
Wax Dipping involves using a special tank to boil wooden beekeeping equipment in a paraffin microcrystalline wax. The wax impregnates the wood, pushing out the moisture and making the equipment waterproof.
No, due to the waterproof wax coating, paint will bead right up off the wood and will not stick properly.
Yes, we do offer Wax Dipping if people have new woodenware, or old scraped clean equipment they would like to dip. We only dip on certain days because it takes a day to heat up the tank, so we try to do as much at once as we can. To find our next dipping dates, please visit the Custom Wax Dipping page on our website; or if you have a large quantity, please call to set up your own dip.
